I was walking through Mission San Juan Capistrano in Southern California and I came across this very small room with an enormous amount of glowing lit red candles flickering below this wonderful wooden statue. The wonderful glow from the candles, the smell of the wax and the lovely light in this small room left a lasting impression. I took many pictures that I used as source photos. Then, working in Corel Painter, I added many layers of textural elements through the use of brush strokes and layers of patterns to suggest a light filled meditative environmental "jewel."
"Luz" has been on display as part of two recent juried exhibitions: "La Jolla Digital," Village Gallery, La Jolla, CA in May 2006 and also "Without Limits: A Latin American Slant," Expressions of Mexico Gallery, May/June 2006.
